The Volvo Ocean Race is in Port in Boston. It is going to be the center of sailing in the US for the next few weeks. Post your pics and stories here. We are looking forward to Rochester Yacht Club's finest, Brandon Colombo and John Newell getting in on the action.

2008 Lightning North Americans

In order to better understand the design of urban waterfronts it is important to understand why people visit the waterfront. What draws you to the water? Do you find that it is peaceful and calming? Are you a sailing or boating enthusiast who cant live without being on the water? Do you like to shop and eat while watching whats going on out on the water? Tell me what you think!

Star For Sale - 10 dollars!

Posted by jib on June 23, 2008 - 8:08am in

I just came across this listing for a fixer upper Star.  Looks like an old wooden one that is need of a lot of rehabbing.  At a sale price of $10, I'm sure someone could afford the work though.  Anyone know of anybody in Arizona who wants a project boat?  The listing is here.

College Sailing

Syracuse University Sailing Team

College sailing. I was just sitting here wondering how college nationals went this year. The college of Charleston was victorious the past 2 years. So heres what I was thinking...

I sailed in college. I was and still am a member of the Syracuse University Sailing Team. We are a club, but we certainly have the heart of a team. There are certain things we are stilll arranging. Its not easy being a student run sailing club with no boats to practice and a grand total of $1000 each year to suffice the team. The cost of traveling to regattas alone is a lot!

Sodus Bay Junior Sailing Association

I am in Sodus Point, with Jerry Dodge. I was telling him that SBJSA now has a Lightning. Can somebody please fill in the details, because I don't really know them.
I do know that it is really cool that there will be a Lightning at SBJSA and I can't wait to get some Lightnings out on the bay this summer.

Housing for the regatta

2009 Lightning North Americans

There are three options for housing at the 09 North Americans. Option 1: rent locally - there are several bed and breakfasts, as well as summer rentals in Sodus Point. Option 2: camp- there is a state campground about 15 minutes away. Option 3: get a hotel - the closest major hotels are in Webster, NY, about a half hour away.

Check back, we will post a list of hotels, rentals and campgrounds shortly.
