College Sailing
College sailing. I was just sitting here wondering how college nationals went this year. The college of Charleston was victorious the past 2 years. So heres what I was thinking...
I sailed in college. I was and still am a member of the Syracuse University Sailing Team. We are a club, but we certainly have the heart of a team. There are certain things we are stilll arranging. Its not easy being a student run sailing club with no boats to practice and a grand total of $1000 each year to suffice the team. The cost of traveling to regattas alone is a lot!
Anyways, I wanted to leave the link for the results from college nationals. I figured it would be a way to get motivated and maybe to a way to get into contact with some of the top teams to see what it is that they do. How are the top college sailing teams managed? Is there advice we could get? What should be the team focus? How do you build up your college sailing team?

I think UPenn's team is technically a Club sport, yet they do a pretty good job of competing with the well funded schools. Despite being at UPenn, I know none of the sailors here, but I'm sure that they would be a good group to contact and model to follow. My guess is that you need to find some alumni from your program to pony up some money so you can buy a few boats and fund some travelling... or get creative and convince your school to give you some more dough. They certainly have some to spend on athletics.
